by Cpl. Robert L. Cook
Jan. 42~Sept. 45

Once upon a time
When I was in my prime,
I was a United States Marine.

They say you don't forget
And that you are yet
A United States Marine.

I carry with me always
With pride and self-esteem
That I was and am always
A United States Marine.

There is no other feeling
With which I am dealing
Than the one
That tells me
I am a United States Marine.

I hope that when
They plant me
Above my head
They'll grant me
The title of
United States Marine.
