Once upon a time
while in my prime
I was a United States Marine.

They say you don't forget
and that you are yet a
United States Marine.

I carry with me always
pride and self-esteem
that I was and am always
a United States Marine.

There is no other feeling
with which I am dealing
than the one that
tells me I'm a
United States Marine.

I hope that when
they plant me
above my head
they'll grant me
the title of
United States Marine.
