by Cpl. Robert L. Cook
Jan. 42~Sept. 45
This day is a special one
More special than the rest,
It gives us time to realize
How much we are blessed.
I have served beneath it,
As have most of you.
We carried it to victory
'Neath skies not always blue.
It has flown above the fury
Of battles, land and sea,
It stands on every mountaintop
For all the world to see.
It has flown at every meeting
Where peace was thought to be,
It flew above memorials
And covered the deceased.
It leads parades and commendations
That tells of bravery,
It tells the world
Just what we mean
By peace and liberty.
Let no man put asunder
What many have achieved.
We seek only peace and love,
No more and no less.
We have dared to take the field
To bring about this cause.
To bring freedom
To the world,
Let there be no pause.
