Once again I listen
To rhetoric
From both sides of the aisle:
The things they say
Oftimes make me smile.
I hear a lot of "gonna do's"
And "He ain't got the stuff!"
I must say I am tired of hearing
All that guff.

When it comes right
Down to it,
They ain't foolin' us.
We heard all that malarkey
Back when things were tough.
We did not see
Much real change
Though talk came fast,
That's true.
When it came right down to it,
It was up to me and you.

We had to keep the country strong,
The fires of business burning.
We had to answer to the call
When a war was churning.
We had to keep the flag
Held high
And hope from ever dying.

Our country will
Remain strong
As long as the people speak.
Let us think before we sign
And all our freedoms keep.
