‘Ol Richard is a buddy to me,
We’re on the other side of 83.
He had a life of service to
The men of service who
Have served their time in hell.

I’spect he’s been an officer in
About a million organizations,
He is out there doin’ his thing
A makin’ phones ring and ring
And keepin’ his keys a runnin’ hot
And givin’ it all he’s got
And getting’ things done.

Now he ain’t one to complain,
He’d do it all over again
‘Cause he has got
A big ‘ol heart,
A heart of gold.

He’s talked to every VIP
In any branch of service;
When he gets through to them
They are ready to give in
And do their duty
To the chosen few.

So here’s to Richard
And the few like him
Who serve the men
Of ranks.
I, for one, will always stand
And give them more
Than thanks.
