by Cpl. Robert L. Cook
Jan. 1942~Sept. 1945

Now, I ain’t a really
‘Churchy’ kind a guy,
No foxhole pledges
Have made I.
I figured if I got thru this mess
I must have been really blest
And no sins
Need I explain.

I know there is a power
Out there
That keeps things movin’
And all square
But since I am
Inclined to doubt,
I can’t figure
What’s it all about.

There’s been a lot of questions
Thrown about
That substantiate the causes
Of my doubts.
Is what little faith I have
Been wasted on a lesser man
Than I was told about?

I have no quarrel
With the Man,
His teachings were
The best of plans.
I know I’ve done
The best I could
Like I knew
That I should.

So, if there is a
A promised land
Please take me
By the hand
And lead to
That big yard
Where I will receive
My big reward.

Amen.
Semper Fi.
And carry on!
