by Cpl. Robert L. Cook
Jan. 1942~Sept. 1945

I took me to a concert,
The band that played
Was “ours,”
There really ain’t no better
Beneath the shining stars.

They played the music
That I love,
Both jazz and military.
The crowd was so receptive,
They gave a great
“Oooorah!”

The joy that showed
Throughout the crowd
Was most gratifying
And when they played
A Sousa
There was no denying.

It’s good to hear music played
By horns, drums and cymbals,
I tire of strings
And other things
So twangy are they strummed.

So give a cheer,
Or an ol' “Oooorah”
For bands that play
Our music.
There ain’t no better
Sound to hear
While sittin’
Or a marching.
