Jan. 1942-Sept. 1945
There was a time when, in this land,
A man could take a solid stand
And send it to his chosen man
In Washington, DC.
The country trusted him to do
What was right for me and you.
He took our thoughts
And ran them through
To see if they were good and true.
He counted up the numbers who
Believed the same as me and you
And acted then upon them.
We have somehow lost the key
To what was true democracy,
Our faith in government is gone
Because our voice is lost.
Though we may rail
Against the flow
Of how the government
May go
Our rights to have our say
Are ignored along the way
And we are left without a song
To simply, simply carry on.
God Bless America!
