Jan 1942-Sep 1945

Again we come to the
place where we pause
to say grace for
the men who gave us
freedom.

To the men who endured
the horrors of war
that took them
from home to afar
and did not return
with the others.

The fields that lie
'neath a foreign sky
hold all that remains
of our heroes.
We can but atone for
those under the stone
by saying a prayer
for God's keeping.

I beg one and all
who answered the call
to stand with me
on this occasion.
Let us take pride,
let’s not deny,
that we are the best
of the nation.
