I read again from poems collected,
over time they have accrued
till I have a book loaded
with thoughts that
occurred on occasion

To me they are a
great assumption
of life and time
as then I saw of
places where I sat foot
and things that occurred

Of beaches dark with
bloody sand,
of new Marines
with marching band,
of bodies floating
in the tide of
some far-off land,
of Marines at attention
standing guard on the strand

My poems cover many places,
many men with young faces
of times that have long gone
and yet linger on
to fill my days

My memories are
still emblazoned in
my mind, I do assert
of war and peace
and degradation,
the times they are
a-changing!
