I’ve hung around this old earth
for some ninety years,
I’ve had my share of joy
and a share of tears.
I’ve learned a bit about life,
some wisdom and some fears.
I guess when all is said and done
I come out as average. . .

Sure, I was a fine Marine
with stripes to show of strife.
I never caught a bullet
I never lost my life
I guess I’m pretty lucky
To have made it home.
