 I am a writer,
or so I’ve been told,
who writes from his heart
who writes from his soul
who has written
sad words and
happy ones too,
who has taken you on
an adventure or two.

I’ve covered the earth
I’ve covered the sea
I’ve taken you places
you’ve not wanted to be,
from beach head
to fox hole
to hospital cot,
to places that
you have forgot.

I’ve given you buddies
who saved your behind,
I’ve given you courage
and presence of mind,
I’ve given you humor
when humor was rare
so bear with me fondly
as my pen grows cold.
Words come slowly
and not so bold but
the tales I’ve written
were worth being told!
