I’m goin’ to a meetin’
of guys of Tarawa,
you might even say
it's our last hurrah.

Don’t know who’ll be there
or who I will see,
maybe it’ll be guys
who were there with me.

There can’t be very many,
the way they are
expended,
time takes it toll,
that’s the way it’s ended.

The league I know
is standing,
the cost of it all,
I think it is generous,
I know we’ll have a ball.

So here is to the fellas
who made it
through the din,
who by grit and guts
turned the tide of battle
into a glorious win.
