The Day of Xmas
by Cpl. Robert L. Cook
Jan 1942–Sep 1945

The day of Xmas
harkens near,
a day we think of
as good cheer.
With tree alight
and candles aglow,
perhaps a bit
of winter snow.

Of presents
lurking ‘neath tree,
a cup of cheer
for you and me.
The fireplace
decked with green,
of music sung
by a choir
helps us aspire
to better things
in the coming year.

Of the boys
all coming home,
no more will they
have to roam
to far off fields
with battle strewn.
Let us keep
the season jolly
oh by gosh
and by golly.
Semper Fi!
