I've Had Xmas
by Cpl. Robert Lin Cook
Jan 1942–Sep 1945

I have had Xmas in a fox hole
I've had Xmas at sea
I've had Xmas on night watch,
many Xmases have I seen.

Most of them were without joy
most were lonely as could be,
many were with troops
who were as sad as me.

Most of the time we toasted
with what we had to drink,
we thought about folks at home,
of what else could we think.

Xmas has seldom been
 a joy to the troops,
they’re often far from home
and couldn’t give a hoot.

So let’s all stand beside them
wherever they may be,
they would rather be at home
the same as you and me.
OOORAH!
